Towers at Discovery Time

Discovery Time is always a blast in Endeavour Block.  All the Year 2 kids come together and learn through doing, making and creating.  Yesterday was no exception.  Our theme was Towers. We brainstormed where we would find towers and looked at a few on the internet.  Then they were set their mission....  working together and managing themselves to create tall and amazing towers.  Some of the towers were really tall.  Here is what some of them thought of the skills they practiced.....

Michael
Riley, Joel and me built a big Eiffel Tower together.

Ellie
Sasha, Amber and me builded a very big fairy tale tower out of different stuff.  It was the tallest.

Dion
Wade, Liam, Cooper, Jaxson and me built a really tall newspaper tower.  We had to make lots of legs for it to stand up.  We had to cut and cellotape lots of newspaper together.

Blake
Grayson, Ollie B, Harrison and me built a big tower out of blocks.  It was as tall as Mrs H.

Luca
Olivia, Daisy and me built a tall tower with blocks.  We also drew some skytowers and castles.

Toby
Me, Mia and Abby made a big building out of connecta straws.

Liam
I managed myself really well.  We worked really well and made decisions together and our tower ended up pretty tall.

Joel
I managed myself because I didn’t knock down anyone’s tower.

Grayson
I made good decisions and I built well.  So I managed myself well.

Discovery Time - Cooperating with Others

On Friday afternoon Endeavour block had Discovery Time.  Our theme was shapes.  All the kids had fun creating, exploring and discovering together.  We worked on cooperating together.  Before we started we completed a Y-chart together to think about what we would see…. hear… and how we would feel when we are cooperating well.

Afterwards we talked about how we cooperated with other.  Here are some of the things the kids said:

I shared my ideas with other people (Amber)
Luca and I played together and shared our ideas on what we wanted to do (Ava)
I worked together with the Maxs’ (Grayson)
I shared the cellotape with my friends (Toby)

In the shape hunt, I did the drawing and Riley did the writing (Lucas)

I waited my turn for the paints (Dion)

Me and Holly made things for each other (Sasha)

Room VH visits Harold

We had so much fun visiting Harold from Life Education on Friday morning.  We learnt new things about food and how it gives us energy.

Here are some photos of our adventures in Harold's truck.

Here we are all ready to learn.

Harold and Bec's teaching us about food for energy.

We learnt a little more about the food pyramid.

Using some of our energy dancing with Harold.

Here we are learning about digestion with Dr Emma.

We are so looking forward to visiting Harold again on Monday and learning more about our body.

John Key Visits Discovery School

Prime Minister's Visits Discovery School on PhotoPeach

What a day - it was very exciting to see New Zealand's Prime Minister in our school hall.  The kids were very excited to see him.
Even though he got close to Room VH he didn't come in to see our wonderful classroom.  He did however visit RB and MR classes.  So our Year 2s definitely were stars!
Check out our writing pages to the right - some facts and opinions we learnt about John Key.

Mr Kell Farewell Assembly

On Friday Room VH hosted a very special assembly to farewell our favourite caretaker Mr Kell.  Our hosts were amazing - congratulations Wade, Jaxson, Freya and Ava.

Everyone in Room VH got up and shared a job that Mr Kell did around our school.... here are some of the jobs we thought of:

  • He changed the towels so we could dry our hands
  • He fixed the fences
  • He vacuums up all the autumn leaves
  • He got out of bed in the middle of the night to stop the school alarm going off
  • He changed the bulbs in our lights when they are flicking
  • He made sure our school is looking good
  • He made our playgrounds safe
These are just some of the jobs that Mr Kell did around our school.

We made Mr Kell a special book with our opinions about why he was the best caretaker in the world.  Discovery School will definitely miss Mr Kell.  He has done so much for our school.
