Transportation - Fire Engine

Lights flashed and sirens blared at Discovery School today.  As part of our transportation unit we had four firefighters come to school and show us around their fire truck.

Every fire truck holds so much equipment to help people in an emergency.

Big thanks and thumbs up to the NZ Fire Service.

Swim Time

Today VH Kids had their fifth swimming lesson at Ally Todd.  It is amazing how far they have come with their swimming skills in just 5 lessons.

An outline was sent home today from Ally Todd outlining the swimming programme and skills being developed during our lessons.

So much fun!

Discovery Time Fun

This morning we had a fun Discovery Time with all the other Adventure classes.  So many activities to discover our creativity and cooperation.

Our focus today was playing and working with someone new.  So many VH kids had fun with new friends today.  They had to practise their introductions, cooperation and encouragement skills.

VH Kids just love Discovery Time - learning and playing with loads of new friends!

T-Ball Fun

This term our PE focus is swimming as well as small ball skills.  So over the past few weeks we have been catching, throwing and hitting small balls.

We've learnt to play T-Ball.  T-Ball is a simplified version of softball or baseball.  This team game combines many of the skills we've been learning.  So much fun running around the bases, whacking the ball with the bat and trying to catch people out.  Heaps of fun!

Our catching skills are certainly improving!

Christmas Disco

What a fabulous night at our Christmas School Disco tonight organised by our DSPTA.  There were some great Christmas costumes on display as well as some cool dance moves on the dance floor.  Thanks to all the parents who helped make this night so memorable for our children :)

Champions Christmas Performance

Today we had fun at a performance by Champions about Christmas.  Loads of fun and laughs.  Thank you.

The story was so funny with Tiny Tim and an elf called Carol.

How many does it take? Capacity

This week we have begun a new unit on Capacity.  Capacity or volume is the measure of space taken up by a three-dimensional object.

On Thursday morning we had fun filling plastic cups with all different sorts of objects.

VH kids had to estimate how many they thought it would take to fill their cup and then count how many it actually did take.

Was great fun!

We estimated how many little squares to fill our cup.

Loads of counting and loads of fun.

Lunch Time Fun

Well, we have a critter crew.  At lunch time today when out on duty I had fun watching the critter crew out hunting for slaters.  They are not everyone's cup of tea but boy they have grabbed VH kids imaginations.

Swimming Fun

Today we had our second swimming lesson at Ally Todd.  We have three groups all being taught swimming skills at the right level.

Loads of fun in the warm, refreshing water.

Owls

Last week our sound of the week ow/ou.  Here are some cool and colour art owls we created.  Aren't they fabulous.

Discovery Time

We love Discovery Time!  VH kids get to choose what they will do and how they will do it.  Being actively involved leads to more powerful understanding of different concepts.

This week we were again practising the key competency of 'Managing Ourselves.'  We had loads of activities to choose from under the concept of Transport.

We made paper planes.

Practised our ball skills.

Made paper rockets.

Constructed vehicles.

Had fun with our brothers and sisters too.
