No David!! What fun we had today talking about and making inferences about the character David by David Shannon.
Check out the video....
Before reading the story we discussed what inferences are. We talked about how we use information we already know and the evidence from the story (clues in the text and pictures) to infer what is happening in the story, We talked about how when we infer, we are trying to figure out something that wasn't completely explained in the story, we use clues to make good guesses! Throughout reading 'No David!' we make inferences by starting out ideas with... "I think...", "Maybe...", "Probably...", "I infer...", "I predict...", or "My guess is...".
I love the lightbulbs that turn on with this lesson. VH kids made great inferences, which makes for a great reading and understanding of what is happening in the story. Here are some of the inferences that VH kids made today...
When David was banging the pots...
- Maybe David wanted to be a drummer
- I think he wanted to get his mum's attention
When David was running the down the street naked....
- I think he didn't want to put his clothes on
- Maybe he didn't want to go to school
- Probably his clothes might have been too small
- I think he didn't like his clothes.
When David had to go to his room...
- I think he was naughty
- I think he left all his toys on the floor
- Probably he was sent to his room because he didn't listen to his mum
When David was opening his arms...
- I think he wanted a hug
- I think he was beginning to feel tired after making such a mess
- I think he wanted to apologise to his mum
- Maybe he was feeling sorry and tired
Aren't these great inferences! Super Star Thinking happening in Room VH
This afternoon we made some David posters out of paper.
Today we had fun reading with our big buddies from YT class. It was super to share our favourite books together.
We also had a visit to our school library. We did two quizzes - which was great fun. One was Library Orienteering. VH kids had to find stamps in different parts of the library. The second one was to guess that character who was coming for dinner.
Can you name the character who was coming for dinner?

A big thank you also to our two mystery readers today... Anne and Andrea :) You were great! I wonder who will be reading to us tomorrow?
