Ole Soccer

Last week we had our first session with Ole Soccer.  What a great session we had.

Every Wednesday morning for the rest of the term we will be practising our soccer skills.  We hope we don't come home too muddy!

Teach the Teacher

On Friday we had three more "teacher's" take the lead and tell us about their interests and hobbies.  What a great job they did.

Kate shared her love of art.  She created a powerpoint showing us all the different art she has made at home as well as overseas.

Anthony also talked confidently about his interests.

Raumati taught us about ballet.  She taught us about the different steps.  She showed us how to do a graceful pirouette too.  (Sorry Raumati I didn't get a photo of you doing this).

What a clever and interesting bunch!

Book Week Fun

Book week was such a success.  A huge big thank you to all our mystery readers :)  You were amazing.

We had lots of fun sharing our favourite books too.  Here are some lovelies with their favourite books.

Some even read their favourite book to their classmates.

One of our mystery reader's read 'Room on the Broom' by Julia Donaldson.  We loved it so much we designed our own brooms.  Here are five designs by VH lovelies.

VH Wild Things!

This week we have read Maurice Sendak's 'Where the Wild Things Are'.  Max was certainly wild. We have written about different times we have been wild.  Here are some of the VH wild things.

Book Week

We have had a great start to Book Week.  We have been enjoying having some mystery readers visiting our class and reading to us.

We can't wait to find out who our next mystery readers will be :)

Teach the Teacher

We had three great 'teachers' on Friday who shared about their hobby or interest.  Well done!

Marcus taught us about his interest of making costumes.  He makes some pretty amazing costumes for his teddies.  We loved seeing a video of him making some costumes.  You are very creative Marcus!

 Benjamin shared about his after school activity of Keas.  He loves going along and learning about the world.  Then he was joined by others in his troop and did the Kea chant.

 Harlow taught us about Pippins and showed us some photos of some of the outings that her club has done including a special trip to a marae.  She also showed us some of the badges she has earned over the last year.  She is looking forward to joining Brownies soon.

Later in the day one of our reading groups performed the play 'Sly Fox' - what a sneaky character he is.  Great acting team!

Lunchtime Disco Fun

On Thursday we had a lunchtime disco hosted by the Discovery School School Council.  Everyone had fun spending a lunchtime dancing their feet off.

Topic Time

Our topic this term is 'I Am Healthy'.  We have been learning about our body and how we can look after ourselves.

We learnt about some important parts of our body.  The kids made these great bodies to show what they learnt.

Teach the Teacher

Today, we had four magnificent 'teachers' telling us about their interests and hobbies.  Well done to them all.

Macklin shared his interest in dinosaurs and the Jurassic Park movies.  He told us lots of information about the dinosaurs.   Macklin had pictures of a tyrannosaurus, a brachiosaurus, a pteranodon and others.  We learnt about meat eaters and plant eaters too.  Well done!

Jack surprised us with his knowledge and ability of the guitar.  He played both by strumming and plucking like a spanish guitarist.  What a talented young man!

Charlotte shared about her love of gymnastics.  She has been to Big Air gymanstics and told us of the different athletic skills she learnt.  She also taught us about how we need to stretch to warm up our muscles before exercise.  Thanks Charlotte.

Jessica shared her love of Red Pandas.  She taught us lots of facts about the Red Panda that she first saw at Wellington Zoo.  I learnt that Red Pandas live in Nepal where Sir Edmund Hillary first climbed Mount Everest.  Thank you for sharing your love of this very cute and endangered creature Jessica.  What a nature smart girl you are.

We are now looking forward to 3 more teachers next Friday :)

Hillary Takes the House Maths Quiz

Yesterday morning the whole came and watched some amazing mathematicians solve some pretty tricky maths problem in the Discovery School Maths Week Quiz.

Here are our four house teams:  Kendall, Hillary, Devoy and Blake.  Each team had four people from each syndicate.  They worked together to work out answers.

It was hard to figure out the answers.  But congratulations to Team Hillary for winning the play-off with Devoy House.
