Science Open Morning

Thank you parents for coming into VH class to see our science wall.  We are very proud of all the science we have learnt this term.

Here are some photos of our science morning.

Here is Charlotte sharing her science project with her sister.

Macklin liked showing his mum his topic book.

Ellie showed her mum her favourite science page.

Jack's mum liked looking at the science but especially all the pages in Jack's topic book.

Marcus' mum was proud of all the science learning he had done!

Here is Jazmyn's mum enjoying some science.

After our parents' came to visit we got to see the rest of the school's science projects.
Here is the winning project.

This project was about growing crystals.

This project was about what soap worked the best.

We have all enjoyed learning about science and skills scientists use this term.

Ginger Beer!

Splash!  Our ginger beer was super bubbly.  The ginger beer exploded all over the ground just like a volcano!

Two people didn't want to try the ginger beer.  Ten people didn't like it but 8 people thought it was yum!

Jessyka said, "It tasted different to a shop ginger beer because it wasn't sweet!"

Week 7 - Science and Discovery Time

What a wonderful week of discovery in VH class.  We are well on the way to understanding what skills scientists use.  This week we have learnt and practiced how to....

We are so looking forward to sharing with you all our science learning during our Science Morning.  Watch this space for the date and times :)
On Friday afternoon, during Discovery Time, we practiced our social skill of the fortnight...

Here we are being responsible doing lots of fun, creative activities.

  Dress Ups

 Little Shops

 Construction

 Playdough

 Hokey Pokey

 Shops

 Zentangle

 More Dress Ups

 Juggling

Boy we do lots of fun learning in VH class!  Year 2 Rocks!

Discovery Time: Science

On Friday afternoon VH class and the other Endeavour Syndicate classes had fun doing lots of science activities during Discovery Time.

Our focus this week was....

We were palentologists - making clay dinosaurs.

We watched how colours mixed making some spinning art.

Some people also mixed colours using tie-dye.

Some great measuring also happened after racing cars down a ramp.

We certainly love science!

Here is how we put in our best effort....

Benjamin – I made a rocket spy ship.  I concentrated really hard and I’m really happy with it.

Sidney – I concentrated and thought carefully  when I was making the book on the i-pad app Book Creator.

Sofia – I tried really hard to catch the bubbles to make my bubble art.

Marcus – I made a domino track and concentrated hard.

Tamsin – I concentrated hard when I was using the glue-gun so that I wouldn’t get hurt.

Anthony – When I was doing the milk science experiment I listened really well.

Charlotte – I used lots of colours to make my spinning art.  I did my best.

Jessyka – I made some bubble art, did a science experiment and made a dinosaur out of clay.  I tried my best in each thing.

Jack – I tried to make a phone out of cardboard and tried different ways to make it real.

Macklin – Ben and I made something together and it worked out really good.  It had superheroes too.

Leah – I made some bubble art and I tried really hard to make big bubbles.

Science: Growing Plants

This week we learnt a little bit about seeds.  We used our science skills of observation to look at the differences between seeds.  We looked at bean seeds and radish seeds.

We noticed that...

The bean seeds were bigger.
The radish seeds looked like little pebbles.
The bean seeds were shaped like a jelly bean.
Both seeds were the colour brown.

Next we planted some seeds with our learning buddies.  Everyone planted a bean seed and two radish seeds.  We are going to use our science skill of observation and measurement over the coming days to see which seeds will germinate first.

Here are some finished potted up seeds.

Science Rotations

This afternoon VH kids had fun doing two science rotations.  In MR class they learnt about gloop.  Is it a liquid or a solid?  We acted like scientists because we did...

We also had fun making balloon rockets in KBr.  We learnt that the force of the air moving in one direction moves the balloon in the other direction.

What a very scientific afternoon!
