Samoan Language Week

Samoa is an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean.  All week we have been celebrating all things Samoan.

There are two main islands Savaii and Upolo.  The capital city is Apia.

Here is a video of what we have learnt this week about Samoa.

Taro Taro Taro

Today we tried some taro.  Taro is a common vegetable in Samoan cuisine.  In Samoa the taro root is wrapped in taro leaves and often cooked in coconut milk and cooked in an umu - an underground oven.  Only Wade and Ava had ever tried taro before.  I was really impressed that 17 out of the 22 of us tried it for the very first time.  How brave!  Some people really liked it but some didn't at all.  There were plenty of funny looking faces in VH this morning.

Good on you for trying a new food!

Samoan Language Week

We had fun this afternoon learning a sasa - a traditional Samoan action song.  Here is a snippet....

We also had our first lesson on our school ukelele.  We learnt to play the chord C.

This week our school assembly song is O le pepe.  Have some fun singing this at home.

Cross Country Fun

What a beautiful day - chilly but stunning sunshine for our 2014 school cross country.  What a magnificent morning.  The kids were so proud of how they ran!  Here are some photos of our efforts.

There'll be a whole heap more photos tomorrow!

Magnets, Mixing and Microscopes

Week 2 has been fun!  We've been writing about all the rain we have been having - check out our writing page 'It's Been Raining' to see some of our amazing acrostic poems.

This week we joined our reading buddies from RD class to share some fun stories.

We began learning about colours - primary and secondary colours.

We had fun making colourful, colour mixed clowns.

Today we had Discovery time.  Our theme was I am a Scientist.  Our focus was supporting and
encouraging each other.  Check out our fun!
