Life Education

Today we got to meet Harold and Jane from Life Education again.  We learnt a lot about food and how food provides us energy.  We explored the food pyramid and learnt how different types of foods should be eaten most, some of the time and then rarely- the treat foods.

Here we are listening well and learning about parts of the body.  What fun.

We can't wait to visit Harold and Jane again next week and learn some more.

Maori Language Week

We have had such fun this week learning using and learning more Maori language.   As groups this week we made beautiful (ahaatua) cloaks (korowai).  We are very proud of our taonga.

On Monday we are going to share our korowai with the rest of our syndicate.

Today we had fun teaching our big buddies an action song using rakau.  We hope you enjoy our video.

Room VH kids have had another great week at school.  Next week we are off to see Harold from Life Education again which we are all very very excited about.

Gymnastics

On Friday VH Class went to gymnastics.  Our teacher was Hannah from Big Air.  At first we took off our shoes and socks to keep the equipment tidy.
Then we started.  Group 1 went to the floor to practice forward rolls.  Hannah asked Group 2 to go to the beam to practice balancing.  Group 3 went to the vault.  They also did some skipping.
For some people it was their first time doing gymnastics.  It was fun.  I love gymnastics.

Maori Language Week

Kia Ora - we have had such a busy busy week in Room VH.  This week we have had an art workshop with Jane Lloyd.  We learnt how to mix colours with crayons to create wonderful pictures of fruits and vegetables.  We used a whero, kowhai and kahurangi crayon.

Lots of colour fun!  Check out our writing on the 50 Awesome Kid Things Page.

Also this week we have had Jeannine come in and read to us.  She read us a great maori reader about a little boy called Hemi who was having his birthday.  We learnt alot of new words.  Tino pai Jeannine.

Everyone has been working hard on their reading over the last month - kids even kept up their reading over the holidays.  Well done.  So many people achieved their '100' sticker.  Two students even achieved their '125' night sticker.  Keep up the great reading!

Tomorrow we are having our first gymnastics lesson in the morning.  Then are going to show our buddies how we can use rakau and we have school assembly in the afternoon.  So Friday is going to be just as busy.

Welcome Back!

We have had such a busy start to our longest and probably the busiest term of 2012.  We have had a great start to the term.

We have already started our topic 'I am An Olympian' where we will investigate what it takes to be a winner.

The class have made good progress already in learning about fractions.  We have been learning to show half of an object.  Next we will move onto learning about quarters.  Today we watched a funny video about fractions.  Here it is for you to enjoy again.

Today we watched a video introducing us to the Olympics past and present.  We have also started reading a Geronimo Stilton book - the mystery of the gold medal.

Next week is Maori Language Week.  We will also be starting our gymnastics lessons with Big Air which we are all excited about.  Another special treat is our second art workshop with Jane Lloyd.

So it is all go in Room VH.

Flat Stanley Visits More Places

Last week Kennyth visited Samoa for a few days.  He took his Flat Stanley with him and here are some photos of their travels.

Also Rosearna's Flat Stanley visited Sydney Australia.  I bet the Sydney Harbour Bridge was fun to climb.
