Welcome to Term 2

I am so excited about this coming term. We are going to have so much fun together - learning and doing lots of things together.

In the meantime here is a fun maths game. You need to add the pipe to save the whale. You need to use your number brain to add to 10.

Have fun and I will see you all on Monday.

The Poppy Poem

This poem was written by a 6 year old called Natalia. I thought it was very clever and can help us remember all the soldiers who died during World War 1.

Poppies are red with a long green stem
They grow in the fields,
There are millions of them.

They help us to remember
All those soldiers brave,
Who fought in the wars
And kept us safe.

Another Great Book!

Yesterday Mrs Nicholson, our school librarian, read us Marmaduke Duke and the Marmalade Jam by Juliet MacIver. It was about a duck called Marmaduke and he was a very funny duck. He was funny because ducks usually don't make marmalade but this duck did. He loved marmalade so much he didn't want to share it.

One day an armadillo came to the pond and jumped into the pond and ate up all the marmalade jam with his really long tongue. Marmaduke was so so sad. His face was covered with tears.

The farmer decided to cheer Marmaduke Duck up by having a party. Everyone on the farm brought some food. It was a very happy ending.

We liked it because it was a rhyming book.

After Mrs Nicholson read this book (and a few others) we voted on our favourite. Nineteen people voted for Marmaduke Duck. It was awesome.

What a Great Book

Last week Mrs H read us the story Bug Buddies - Ant Invasion by Joe Miller. It was about five little insect friends who tried to save all the insects in the woods from an evil spider called Spinner.

Zap, Buzz, Lurch, Gonzo and Crunch had to work together to beat Spinner and the evil ants.

We all thought the book was fantastic. I really liked it because it was an adventure book.

There are three other books about the Bug Buddies. I've started reading one already.

Week 9 in Room VH

This week we have been using shapes and creating patterns in Room VH. Here are some of the things we have been doing.

We have completed our first week of swimming. Yesterday we talked about our goals in swimming and these will be up soon on our walls for everyone to see and share.

This week we also reflected on our Athletics Day, coming in and see how the kids felt about athletics and read their cool descriptive writing.

Swimming .... our swimming time on Wednesday and Friday has changed - we will be going swimming at 9.30am in the morning instead of at noon. So if you are able to help at this time that would be magic.

I hope you all have a safe and fun weekend, enjoying the sun. Remember to put you clocks back!

See you soon,
Mrs H

Skipping Fun in Room VH

Week 8 Is Going To Be So Much Fun!

Woo Hoo! Week 8 is here so that means our swimming starts at Ally Todd Swimming. We are swimming on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday so remember to bring your togs, goggles, swimming cap and of course your towel.

Our library time will have to change this week so I will let you know when we are going tomorrow.

We had such a busy week last week with athletics and our art workshop. Have you checked out the photos on our blog.

At the moment in maths we are learning about, finding and using shapes to create patterns and pictures. We are also continuing to learn about place value, especially hundred numbers.

Last week we were real authors using describing words to bring our writing to life. Come in and check out our athletics descriptions.

Looking forward to seeing you all.

Art Workshop Fun

We had lots of fun today with Jane Lloyd. She taught us how to draw a portrait so all our face features are in the right place. Look at how hard we concentrated and listened.

Leaping at Long Jump

Wow What a Busy Week

We have had such a busy week in Room VH.

Firstly, thank you all for coming along to our student-parent-teacher conferences last week to form goals for your children. These will be coming home Wednesday next week - so take a peek in their book bags.

Earlier this week we worked with our buddies to make our school environment better by cleaning up around the school.
Today we had our Fun Run for Christchurch. The children ran valiantly around and around the 400m track at Adventure Park. Many ran 4 or 5 laps, some even more than this. Ask them how many they ran for the people of Christchurch. I was a very proud teacher! Well done to you all.

Coming up next week on Monday we are having our school athletics (fingers are crossed firmly for good, fine weather otherwise Thursday here we come). Our whole syndicate will be strolling down to Adventure Park at 12 noon. We will enjoy a picnic lunch together (so remember no bought lunches on Monday). Then the kids will enjoy participating an athletic rotation. We encourage all the children to support their house by wearing house colours on Monday to be part of all the fun.

Have a fantastic weekend. See you all on Monday!

Swimming Time By John

Henry, Sam, Joshua, Lachlin, John, Beth, Niamh, Cory

I jumped off the boat and then we got to play on the sanddunes. I liked swimming to the other side of the river with my life jacket on. I climbed tall sanddunes with my friends, it was amazing!

We have had a great start to Week 7. Coming up this week we have Library on Wednesday, Kapa Haka on Thursday and on Friday afternoon we have our Fun Run at Adventure Park. Keep on gathering sponsors for this great event to raise money for the people of Christchurch.

Remember to get your permission slips in for both the fun run and the Athletics Day next Monday.

See you all tomorrow.

My Fort By Layton

Hi guys, In the weekend me and my dad started building a fort in my backyard. I helped measure the posts and dig the holes. I also carried the posts down the bank. They were very heavy! Iwill post a picture of it once it is finished.
