Wow - Flat Stanley's From All Corners of the Earth!

We have had lots of Flat Stanley's arrive in Room VH this week.  Here are three more that the children have so enjoyed receiving.

From the United Arab Emirates in the Middle East comes Flat Stanley from Luke's Grandma and Grandpa.  What an amazing place!

From England we received another Flat Stanley for Regan.  Flat Stanley hadn't visited Norwich before.

From the GC - or the Gold Coast, comes some postcards from Kennyth's family in Brisbane.

Flat Stanley visited Southbank and went swimming.  He went to Sea World (which I know Kennyth would love to visit too) and it was really fun to see all the sea creatures there.  Near to where Kennyth's Uncle Ben and Aunty Tai and his cousins Bella, Ethan, Riley, Mile and Tye is a rainforest where many Australian creatures live.  What an exciting adventure.

Samoan Language Week

This week is Samoan Language Week.  We have been learning about Samoa.  Yesterday we were lucky to have Euta Afamasaga, Kaitlyn's dad, come in and teach us about Samoa.  We learnt a lot about Samoa.  Fa'afetai Euta.

We have also had fun learning to count in Samoan.

More Great Readers

Boy, we have some great readers in Room VH.  Here are some more kids who have achieved not only their 25th or 50th night of reading but lots have achieved their 75 nights of reading sticker!  

Well done - you should be very proud of yourselves.

Big big congratulations Josh who came 2nd in the Year 2 Boys Cross Country.  Not only that but his house Blake won the overall points in the 2012 Discovery School Cross Country.

Flat Stanleys arrive from England

This morning we have had 3 Flat Stanley's arrived from England.  Two from London (the capital of England) and one from Portsmouth.  Can you find them on the map?

The first one was from Grace Kelly in England.  Grace was in Mrs Harvey's class last year and is friends with Tara.

Look at all the dogs that Grace has.

The second Flat Stanley arrived after visiting Buckingham Palace with Josh's Uncle Kurt and Aunty Ingrid.  They got the palace by riding the underground train in London.  This is called The Tube.

The last of our Flat Stanley's to arrive today was from Lucy's friend Briana.  This Flat Stanley visited Plymouth in the south of England.  They visited the first iron plated warship called the HMS Warrior and then went up the Spinnaker Tower that overlooks Portsmouth Harbour.

Telling The Time

We have had another fantastic week in Room VH. This week we have been learning about time this week.  We have learnt about days, months and o'clock times.  Here are two games  that you could practice this.

More Flat Stanley's Arrive

Over the past couple of days two more Flat Stanley's arrive back in Room VH.

From Brooke's aunty in Australia she sent pictures of the more unusual animals of Australia, an Echidna, a platypus and the laughing kookuburra.

Our first Flat Stanley from the US arrived also from Mia's cousin Olivia. 

Stunning Day for Cross Country

What a magnificent day for Cross Country.  Enjoy the slideshow of fun!  Congratulations to everyone.  You did a magnificent job and you should be very proud of yourselves!

Gidday from Oz

Today Emma's Flat Stanley (well her name is Sydney) arrived back from Sydney, Australia.  She had a wail of a time driving over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and spending hours looking around this huge city with Uncle Steve.

Thanks Aunty Shell and family for looking after Flat "Sydney".

Nǐ Hǎo from Hong Kong

Flat Stanley has visited Hong Kong.  It is a very busy hot city.  It is full of sky scrapers.  Flat Stanley has visited Hong Kong Disneyland and the Giant Buddha Statue on Lantau Island.

Rugby World Cup Visits Discovery School

On Friday we had a real treat.  The Rugby World Cup visited our school.  It was really exciting to see this magnificent golden cup.  We also saw the Women's Rugby World Cup which only the New Zealand women's rugby team has ever won - four times in a row.

This cup, called the Webb Ellis Cup, is made of gold.  It weighs 4.5 kilograms and only the winning team and coaches are allowed to touch it.

Cohen's Uncle Jeremy from the New Zealand Rugby Union brought it to school and all of the classes were lucky enough to have a photo with it.

More Adventures with Flat Stanley

Tayne's Flat Stanley arrived in England.  He went on a camping trip with Tayne's Granddad and Jackie.  He went on a canal boat, sometimes called a longboat.  Then lucky Flat Stanley travelled on a London Double Decker Bus before returning to Discovery School.

Another Flat Stanley that Tayne sent arrived in Sydney, Australia.  He had a great time catching a ferry on Sydney Harbour, where he saw the famous bridge and the Opera House.  Stanley had fun playing on Sydney's beaches too because it is still warm there.  

Thank you Granddad, Jackie, Uncle Warren, Aunty G and Ava for having Flat Stanley to stay.

Flat Stanley Arriving from around the World

It has been so exciting in Room VH.  We have had 3 Flat Stanley's returned from around the globe.

Flat Stanley in England

Elanor’s Flat Stanley visited Nanny and Grandad in Shobdon, Herefordshire.  Shobdan has a very famous church.  Flat Stanley also visited where the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, grew up.  Flat Stanley visited Gloucester which is a very old city.  The English King Edward II is buried there.

Flat Stanley also arrived from Fleet in England from Charli's grandma.  He had an exciting time in Fleet seeing a hedgehog and fox roaming around grandma's garden.  Stanley also visited Fleet Pond.

Flat Stanley in Japan

Today we received Regan's Flat Stanley from Japan from Aunty Noako and Uncle Egon.  They took Stanley to a shrine close to their home in Tokyo.  People go there to pray in the grounds of the shrine.  There is also a stage for "Noh" play which is a traditional dance and drama in Japan.

This is the view from the apartment Stanley stayed in. The tower in the distance is called the Tokyo Tower.  The bridge on the right is called the Rainbow Bridge and it is very beautiful when it lights up at night.  Tokyo is such a big city I bet Stanley had a great time there.

Flat Stanley Has Arrived in Australia

Chase's Flat Stanley has arrived in the Gold Coast, Australia.  He has been having lots of fun exploring all the Australian delights.

 What a spectacular afternoon to share with our special mums and friends.  It was really cool to have so many great women to support our kids. Thanks for coming along.  We really appreciate you!

Yum! Boerewors Anyone?

This week we have begun learning about Africa.  We were really lucky because Mrs Kotze came in and cooked us some boerewors.  It was delicious.  Boerewors is a South African delicacy.   It is a special sausage.   The name boerewors comes from the Afrikaans words boer (farmer) and wors (sausage).

Most of us said that it looked like a long snake.  Finley thought it looked like a snail's shell.

Ola and Welcome to Term 2

We have started our new term full of excitement and learning.  Today we had a day of travelling around the globe (well Adventure Syndicate).

The kids had a great day of learning about different countries.  Mrs Lough taught them about China, Mr D introduced France, Mrs Saunders showed the children Egypt, Mrs Arrowsmith taught the children games from South Africa and Mrs Harvey introduced the Netherlands.

In Egypt two children got to get dressed up in local costumes too.

Our day began learning about Brazil.  The kids learnt about the rainforest and why it is important to our planet.  They also saw the fun Brazilians have at the Rio Carnival - we even had our own.
